Cause and Effect-Charlie fakes his feelings for Mary Elizabeth in part 3 and ends up with no friends
because he lied to her. Also ends up with no girlfriend.
because he lied to her. Also ends up with no girlfriend.
Flashback-The author uses flashback in part 2, page 90, when Charlie's aunt was in a car accident and passed away. Charlie goes back to the date and tells the story.
Compare and Contrast- In the beginning of the book Charlie was not popular and he has no friends and then transforms into this extreme partier that leads him into drug use. Charlie came into high school with no friends due to his best friend killing him which explains why he was so antisocial. After meeting Sam and Patrick he turns into a completely different person.
Pacing- Chbosky set this book up to pace whenever Charlie makes a letter. Usually he writes at least once every week, maybe more. All the book is, is Charlie's letter.
The author uses this kind of structure to make the book unique, because Charlie is writing letters to no one specific, he doesn't want people to read his letters. The structure that Chbosky uses makes me feel closer to the characters because, its through Charlie's perspective and he talks about everyone's character traits and how they contribute to the book.
